Motion for a resolution no. 918 - Supporting Denmark and working towards greater European strategic autonomy

Recently, the President of the United States has stated on several occasions that he wants to ‘acquire’ Greenland, either by trade or by force.

These threats come at a time when the Arctic is acquiring a major geostrategic role as a result of climate change. Greenland's soils are also said to harbour numerous natural resources, including rare earths.

The US President's statements are contrary to the fundamental principles of international law and constitute a direct threat to the sovereignty of Denmark and the European Union. This is why, following my visit to Denmark, I wanted to table a motion for a European resolution to reaffirm France's support for its Danish ally. Through this text, I propose that we Europeans realise the need to give ourselves genuine strategic autonomy.
