United Kingdom - Budding MPs at Battersea school

London's new MPs opened the doors of their hemicycle to me ! I had the pleasure of talking to Monsieur Rambaud's CM2 class at Battersea School (London) at the beginning of January.

His pupils have been selected to take part in the Children's Parliament, organised by the Assemblee nationale, the Agence pour l'enseignement français à l'etranger and the Ministère de l'Education nationale et de la Jeunesse.

As if they were on a committee at the Assemblée naionale, the schoolchildren turned their classroom into a think tank and looked at the issue of combating ocean pollution, a highly topical subject given that Nice will be hosting the Third United Nations Conference on the Oceans in June.

While there is still a great deal of progress to be made, much has been achieved since 2017 :

- France has reached its national target, with 33% of its territorial waters covered by at least one marine protected area.

- The French President has launched a coalition of countries to preserve 30% of land and sea areas, which now has 84 participating States

- France played a key role in the adoption of the High Seas Treaty in 2023 and supports its entry into force by June 2025

- France supports the adoption of a legally binding international agreement to end plastic pollution

I'm proud to have taken part in this great initiative, which aims to help schoolchildren discover the role of legislators. Thank you to all the pupils for their questions and congratulations on their food for thought. Thanks also to the school principal and the entire teaching team for their commitment to the children.

Good luck with your bill ! To be continued... 😉
