Prison de la Santé in Paris: TF1/LCI report

At a time when our prisons are the target of an unprecedented wave of attacks, I visited the Paris-La Santé prison this week to show my support for the prison officers who, every day, ensure the security of our establishments in increasingly difficult conditions.

Since mid-April, dozens of coordinated attacks have targeted prison staff in their workplaces and sometimes even in their homes. Cars set on fire, mortars fired, threats, intimidation, pressure on families: the violence has reached an unacceptable level, and it is the staff on the ground who are suffering the consequences. This visit takes place in a special context.

As rapporteur for the law against drug trafficking and organised crime, I can see that the pressure from criminal networks on our institutions is getting tougher. This is precisely what this bill is all about: giving the State the means to better protect its agents, secure our prisons and weaken the criminal organisations that are corrupting our society. These attacks should alert us, but above all they should strengthen our determination to act. Supporting our police, judges and prison officers also means supporting the rule of law.
