Week of the Assembly of French Abroad

This week, I had the pleasure of taking part in the Assembly of French Nationals Abroad (AFE), an essential opportunity to make the voice of our compatriots living outside France heard.

Chaired by Hélène Degryse, this body plays a key role in representing and defending the interests of French people living abroad in dealings with the public authorities.

At the opening ceremony, attended by Minister Laurent Saint-Martin, a number of important announcements were made to improve the daily lives of expatriates. These included

A trial for the electronic renewal of passports, which could save many French people abroad long journeys.

The digitisation of electoral propaganda, an ecological and modern step forward.

The strengthening of digital identity to simplify and secure remote administrative procedures.

In addition to these announcements, this plenary week of the AFE was an opportunity for rich exchanges with consular representatives.

These grassroots representatives are in close touch with the realities faced by our compatriots, and are invaluable in helping us to better understand the challenges they face.

I was able to attend several events where major issues were debated: education, taxation, social protection and administrative procedures.

These discussions directly feed into our thinking and actions to better meet the expectations of French people living in Northern Europe and beyond. I would like to thank all the elected members of the AFE for their commitment and dedication to serving our community.

Our exchanges are invaluable and strengthening this link between members of parliament and consular representatives is essential if we are to make progress on the issues that matter to you.
