On Wednesday 27 November, the Law Commission adopted the draft bill on strengthening transport security, which was examined by the Law Commission of the National Assembly on 27 November 2024, after being adopted by the Senate on first reading on 13 February 2024.
On behalf of the Ensemble Pour la République Group, I defended its adoption because it strengthens the prerogatives of security officers, for example by authorising SNCF and RATP officers to carry out security searches without prior prefectoral order, if dangerous objects are suspected, and to create a ‘right of pursuit’ enabling security officers to follow an offender on the public highway.
In order to guarantee greater security on public transport, the use of new technologies will be facilitated, in particular by making the use of pedestrian cameras permanent for security guards and inspectors, including on the public highway.
