UK - On 8 May in London

This Thursday, May 8, I was at the Lycée Charles de Gaulle in London to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the end of the Second World War in Europe.

A solemn and deeply human moment shared with students, teaching staff and veterans' representatives.

I expressed my gratitude to those who, every day, make our collective memory live : teachers, veterans, associations...

They play an essential role in passing on to the younger generations the history and values of peace, unity and solidarity that underpin our European project. The ceremony concluded with a strong symbolic gesture : the planting of a tree, in memory of those who fought for freedom.

A big thank you to Catherine Bellus-Ferreira, the school’s principal, and Brigitte Williams for organizing this beautiful tribute with the students. These moments of transmission are important, and I am proud to have been part of it.
