This text sends a clear and strong message to our Danish and Greenlandic friends. This resolution unambiguously affirms the full solidarity of France and the European Union towards Denmark and Greenland, especially in the face of recent and repeated threats from President Donald Trump.
It reminds us of a fundamental truth: sovereignty is not negotiable.
The European Union must be a powerful player, beyond a simple space of traffic and economic market. France and its European partners are committed to :
• Strengthen their diplomatic support in Denmark and Greenland
• Exploring, with the Copenhagen agreement, a joint European presence to ensure regional stability
• Relaunching regional cooperation based on the law and dialogue between European Arctic states
• Update our European strategies in this region, in the face of increasing geopolitical and climate risks
The Arctic is not a peripheral area, it is a major strategic space for our sovereignty, our collective security and the credibility of our external action. The next step will be a public debate in the National Assembly, where all members of parliament can vote on this essential text.
